Bournemouth Echo: Visitors do as they please Visitors do as they please

Nobody wants a repeat of last summer.

For three months, travellers occupied various pieces of open space across Bournemouth and Poole, in some instances simply going from one place to another, one step ahead of the legal process. Bournemouth council had a measure of success with its lockdown policy. Now Poole is beefing up security at six key sites.

These measures may not be enough, but at least it’s a start.

Residents across both boroughs have had enough of those who stick two fingers to the law and do as they please as and when they feel like it.

Travellers are a recognised ethnic group. The piece tars all travellers with the same brush and is bias. It has everything to do with race. Ironically the writer is close to the line in what he was saying as the article could be construed as rallying negative opinion about an ethic group based upon assumption. This could also be considered as inciting hatred. which as i'm sure your aware is a criminal offence. hence my admittedly somewhat tongue in cheek comment. So **** off troll hunter.

It's a criminal offence to trespass and cause criminal damage but the people this piece is about don't let that stop them!

I think the article incites hatred towards law breaking travellers and rightly so, they're not exempt from judgement because they're part of an ethnic minority group.

- they are not exempt on an individual basis but as a group it is a little close to the line. ie tarring everybody with the same brush.

It is the equivalent of saying that because one white cyclist pushed over a pensioner that all white people are willing to do the same. which is obviously BS.

I think identifying some law breakers as travellers when they are travellers and their criminal activity involves being travellers isn't close to the line.

We've got a police unit in this country set up to tackle gun crime in the black community - is that a little close to the line too? It's tarring part of an ethnic minority community with the same brush just like this article is.

we will never agree so there is little point discussing this further but since you asked the question. to my mind operation trident was racist as it promoted the idea that gun crime is a solely 'black' problem, which isn't true. I would say however, there was some calling for operation trident from the black community this added some legitimacy to the operation.

The operation would have worked just as well if it was targeting inner city gun crime and once again to my mind, it wasn't necessary to mention race.
