I WAS saddened to read in the Echo (March 29) that Bournemouth council is to go into competition with the private sector in setting up yet another Limited Liability company in the council’s name, in order to compete with local builders.

As if it were not hard enough in present times for small businesses to succeed, what they do not need is competition from their own local council.

As Cllr Lawton points out: “We already have an established, successful and skilled building maintenance team”.

This of course means that they do not have the overheads or pressure of cost in setting up and running, or even succeeding in their business as we the taxpayer are already funding them.
