The tale of two car parks

Bournemouth Echo: Cllr John Beesley Cllr John Beesley

DESPITE the last ditch attempts of Trevor Osborne, Bournemouth Council has stuck to its leader’s guns and pulled the plug on the Pavilion Gardens scheme.

Cllr John Beesley has the reputation of a shrewd operator and it may be that he has a plan B in mind - it was after all his decision to ditch Mr Osborne.

Meanwhile nothing is settled on the other contentious town centre site, the Exeter Road site. Leisure complex or bus station.

The details behind the council’s apparent preference for the latter may be clearer this week or so we are promised. Watch this (car parking space).

I think they must mean shrewd operator in the sense of card shark or conman, wonderway. A carbuncle on the skin of local government, the most worrying aspect (of the allegory) being how contagious it is.

To which sense, I'd lend my tacit agreement.
