Food crisis is wake-up call
9:51am Monday 30th December 2013 in Opinion
THE fact that so many people in Dorset are relying on foodbanks should trouble everyone.
Many of those receiving food parcels are hard-working people, used to stable jobs.
But in these times of low wages, rising living costs and cuts to the welfare bill, all too many are finding the ends will no longer meet.
Many say benefits changes introduced in April have made life harder. Perhaps a government minister should visit the foodbanks in Bournemouth or Poole and ponder why, in the 21st century, we still need charities to feed people.
