Safety first in countryside
10:21am Tuesday 10th September 2013 in Opinion
IT will come as no surprise to our readers that there have been 62 heath fires in Dorset for the first eight months of this year.
Indeed, it seemed we were printing details of such blazes every other day during the recent hot spell.
Contrast these figures to last year, when there were just 30 heath fires for the whole of 2012.
Some of the blazes have been started by arsonists, but others have been caused accidentally, say by a discarded lit cigarette or a barbecue.
The message to all who visit the countryside is: be safety conscious.
