Going wrong on day one
10:20am Monday 9th September 2013 in Opinion
A QUARTER of the pupils at Magna Academy were sent home or segregated from the rest under a “zero tolerance” approach to uniform.
It’s a startling figure. There must be plenty of pupils among that 25 per cent who did not intend to break the rules and would have been seriously upset.
It’s hard for outsiders to judge this case. Parents and pupils must respect school rules, but schools which adopt an over-zealous approach to regulations can foster as much distrust as those who don’t enforce them.
A period of calm reflection and dialogue would do no-one any harm.
