Jane’s campaign could save a life

JANE Ormerod is determined to make something good from a tragedy.

Jane lost her son to an attacker with a knife nearly two years ago.

Now she is working to change young people’s attitudes to knives.

There could hardly be a better time for Jane to make her point. Not only is the anniversary of Nicholas Ormerod’s death approaching, but last week the whole country was shocked when 16-year-old Christina Edkins was stabbed to death on a bus on her way to school in Birmingham. It was the kind of senseless loss that makes people wonder what has gone wrong with the world.

When knife crime appears rife in some areas, young people sometimes feel they have to carry knives because it seems everybody else is.

If Jane’s efforts can do something to break that vicious circle, they will be more than worthwhile. And we will never know how many possible tragedies she will have prevented.
