Driver should come forward voluntarily

THERE are some stories that shock even the most hard-bitten journalists.

The death of Jade Clark is one of them.

We have covered the story throughout the week, online and in the newspaper since Jade was killed on the A31 last Sunday evening as she rode on her motor scooter.

Now, at the end of a devastating week for the 16-year-old’s family, a reward has been offered to find the hit and run driver who police believe initially knocked her over.

Given the fact that the vehicle they are looking for is not that common and that there cameras on so many of our roads, it ought not to be too long before the driver is located.

It should not need to come to that.

If the driver has a conscience, he or she should come forward voluntarily before they receive the knock at the door. Whatever the circumstances of the tragedy, Jade and her family deserve at least that honesty.

YES, I wholeheartedly agree.
Was it really necessary to post photos on this website of her scooter bike after that horrific accident? - I was shocked to see such damage caused by this impact.
The poor girl didn't stand a chance.
If this person doesn't come forward, in my opinion this has to be mankind sinking to an all time low.
God Bless Jade, R.I.P.

I agree - heartbreaking for the poor girl's family and friends and just being made worse by the driver's decision to 'run away'. I hope he/she finds the strength to hand them selves in and allow a properly conducted inquiry to take place
