BY the time you read this you will know whether we have had one of the worst snowfalls in recent years or it’s all been a brouhaha over nothing.

Forecasters were last night predicting 10cm of the white stuff could fall across the county today.

Gritters were on standby, South West Trains was scheduled to be running a revised service and some schools had shut.

It shouldn’t come as a shock to us. It is after all winter and heavy snowfalls have been widely predicted for the last few weeks.

We all know that weather experts forecast rather than guarantee, but it was good to see the authorities saying they were ready for the extreme conditions.

Let’s make another prediction about tomorrow.

And that’s if major roads are ice rinks and pavements are equally slippery, then the complaints of ‘why does this always happen when it snows?’ will be heard in every town hall.
