What gives this town a bad name
THE people planning a gay club called G at Bournemouth’s Triangle may be feeling hard done by.
They aimed to create a quiet night spot with occasional entertainment, plus “nannies” in drag to shepherd people to taxis.
Councillors rejected their application because of police objections and a presumption against new alcohol licences in the town centre.
The premises is in the “cumulative impact area” where 41 per cent of Bournemouth’s alcohol-related crime takes place, yet few people would say gay venues at the Triangle are big contributors to that problem.
The committee faced a difficult decision and decided to err on the side of caution.
But Bournemouth’s problems with alcohol and trouble will not be solved until something can be done about the hordes of drunken people in other parts of the town centre who are really giving the place a bad name.

triangle was visited by heterosexuals
as well. This was back in the 1970's
when my late sister, who was gay, used
to go, those were the days! Shut that
door oh I say!
