THE year 2013 has begun with a depressingly familiar ring to it. The economy is once again in the spotlight.

Camera chain Jessops – which has several stores locally – has gone into administration.

Administrators have said branch closures are “inevitable”.

Dorset Enterprises, which provides employment for disabled people in Bournemouth, is set close in two months. That’s 23 jobs at risk.

A report just published says the real value of average earnings for all employees in the UK have dropped by 12.8 per cent since 2008.

And another survey concludes that 47 per cent of UK mums are sacrificing ‘treats’ for themselves so that the cash can be spent on the rest of the family.

It’s not easy to find the good news but the region’s construction market is predicted to increase output this year and the government has announced a new Traineeships programme for 16 to 24-year-olds.

Let’s hope there’s more on the way.
