Flying with the birds
HIGH FLYER: Christian Moullec in the skies with the geese
HIGH FLYER: Christian Moullec in the skies with the geese

FOR microlight pilot Christian Moullec is flying to the New Forest and Hampshire County Show this summer with a few of his feathered friends.

In a spectacular aerial display, the French conservationist will lead a flock of wild geese in formation across the channel and over the show ground in Brockenhurst.

The Doctor Dolittle of the skies has spent years trying to save a rare species of lesser-white-fronted goose.

And part of that work has involved training the birds to migrate to and from Lapland and Holland.

Now he spends his time taking some of the flock to shows around Europe to help pay for the pioneering scheme.

A show spokesman said: "They will fly over from France for the show and settle nearby until their performances twice a day over the show ground.

"Anyone who has had the privilege of seeing him perform with his geese, will know that when he flies over, everyone stops whatever they are doing and gazes totally transfixed, up at the sky watching with delight.

"It seems unbelievable that a flock of geese would choose to fly in formation beside Christian's microlight plane, following him around the sky. It's a case of watch and believe."

The Show, at New Park, Brockenhurst is taking place between July 29 and 31. For tickets and further information call 01590 622409.
