DAMP SQUIB: Bad weather marred last year's New Forest Show, but organisers are bullish about this year's event
DUE to the dismal wet weather last year visitor numbers at the New Forest Show turned out to be something of a damp squib but organisers have been heartened by the enthusiasm shown for this year's event.
Despite last year's numbers plummeting from 88,000 to 68,750 and many shows across the country choosing to close more than 300 volunteers battled against the elements and got on with the Show.
And it seems their tenacity is set to pay off as 80 per cent of the trade stands have re-booked for this year, with enquiries for new stands exceeding expectations.
And the good news gets better as the Show is estimated to contribute £12 million a year to the local economy, a feat recognised by The New Forest District Council.
Chief executive officer at the Council, David Yates said: "I am absolutely convinced that the New Forest and Hampshire Show brings enormous economic value to the area and unites the local business community."
And businesses such as Proline Equestrian Construction, BHG Marine and Quincey Upholsterers are just three of the local companies whose sales have been boosted by attending the country show.

Managing director at Proline, John Collis said the company has increased their turnover by 45 per cent since they came to show three years ago and they are now able to offer a nationwide service building arenas, stable bases and race tracks.
He said: "Business has come in from Cornwall to Edinburgh and many of the well known event riders are clients - Polly Williams being one - and we are delighted with the news that the Queen is to opne the arena we have built at Larkhill."
This year's Show will be held at New Park, Brockenhurst on Tuesday July 29, Wednesday July 30 and Thursday July 31.
