DO something special by getting involved in policing as a volunteer special constable, just like Brian Woodward.
The newly appointed ‘specials’ chief officer has helped launch Cheshire Police’s new campaign, ‘do something special today’.
Brian, a logistics director for an international manufacturer, said: “I look forward to welcoming many new recruits as part of Cheshire’s ‘do something special today’ campaign.”
Brian started life as a special constable at 42.
He said: “It sounds like a cliché to say that being a special has transformed my life but it really has. Being a special made me very aware of my surroundings and also very appreciative of the safe community that I was fortunate to live in.”
Anyone interested in becoming a special constable is given help to learn new skills, gain valuable experience in a professional environment and is asked to work a minimum of 17 hours per month.
Police and crime commissioner John Dwyer said: “Becoming a special constable is a great opportunity for people to give their time to make a difference. There are opportunities for everyone.”
