Duo to battle it out for Tory candidacy
THE Conservative battle to succeed Sir John Butterfill as MP for Bournemouth West has been whittled down from 150 hopefuls to one man and one woman.
From a shortlist of six, party activists last night voted to send Mike Greene and Rebecca Harris to an open primary next Thursday, which will decide between the two of them.
Mr Greene, 44, lives on the West Cliff and is a councillor in Camden where he holds the environment portfolio.
He is a former managing director of the Royal Bank of Canada in London and Singapore and his wife Nicola is a Bournemouth councillor.
Rebecca Harris, 40, worked in publishing, then later for the Conservative Research Department and as a special adviser helping to put together party policies on health, education and transport at the last election.
The final stage in the process is the open primary which is being held on July 10 at the Queens Hotel in Bournemouth.
All electors in the constituency who register with the Conservatives will be able to attend and vote at what is effectively a public meeting, even if they are not party members.
The candidates will explain why they should be selected as the prospective parliamentary candidate and answer questions. Between now and then they will both campaign in the constituency.
Veteran backbencher Sir John has represented Bournemouth West at Westminster for 25 years and is stepping down at the next election.
Anyone wishing to attend the primary should email office@bournemouthwest conservatives.com or write to BWCA at 135 Hankinson Road, Bournemouth by noon on Wednesday.

It does'nt really matter who wins. The Tories could put a gorilla out with a blue rosette on and it'd still get voted in.

In Absentia,
It always used to be said that a conservative sack of spuds would would get voted in in B'mth West.
It is good to see that the quality of the candidate has improved!
I think!

Mr Greene is a Councillor in Camden therefore surely he lives in Camden not Bournemouth?

Blimey "former managing director of the Royal Bank of Canada in London and Singapore"... is there a chance that we might have someone in Parliament who actually knows something about how the banking sector works understands the mess we are in?

VOTE BLUE GET GREENE.
Should be very representative of Bournemouth West's electorate if they elect him!!
At least with his 2 homes at present, he should not need any advice about claiming his second home expenses from Sir John Butterfill or his Kitchen Cabinet!

It's a shame a local candidate wasn't selected. Camden is hardly local however one stretches their imagination!

If he was any good, he'd still be there earning far more than he ever will as an MP.

RE:- Wannabe M.Ps.
I wonder if any of them have noticed that any story involving travellers invokes an immediate (hostile) reaction from the whole community?
It is also noticable that the local "champions of free speech" (e.g The Echo), immediately shut down the site!
Maybe there is a message there somewhere!
The message might be that the people want some action!

Greeting from Camden, London to the Bournemouth Tories,
Please vote for Mike Greene, our "absentee" executive councillor, since you will be doing us a great favour. As the Executive Chair for Environment, Mr. Greene has a bit of the anti-Midas touch.
Your selection of him will allow the LibDem/Tory alliance to make a much needed new appointment. Also, it will allow Mr. Greene a free meal ticket in Westminister representing his own interests and not those his constituents. Next Thursday, you have the chance to make Camden a happier borough of London. Grab the nettle and vote for the Mike!!!!

The Echo already has one Tory roving MP in Bournemouth East. So, as they can never say NO TO BIAS, perhaps a travelling MP in Bournemouth West may not be given such Freedom of the Local Press! Then again, perhaps the local electorate may not be taken in by Dave Cameron's Pledges!

You obviously have NOT read the comments made by Fiona, against the two councillors,as they were withdrawn by the echo,so ITS YOU who are talking nonsense and should apoligise, but only real men do that.

If you take a step back and take a look at what you have both written you will see that you are both very passionate people who believe in what you stand for.
This is what makes the country that I grew up in so great!
So, keep going for each others throats, one of you will lose, no one will die!
Apart from old age of course, (I will race you!).
