New scheme for homes on builder’s yard
DEVELOPERS have submitted another application to build eight new properties on a former builder's yard in Portfield after their last scheme was rejected due to concerns it would set a precedent for 21st century "slums" in the town.
The previous application for the same site by local building contractors Bryant and Trowbridge for two terraces of three-bedroom houses, one of five properties and one of four at Elizabeth Avenue, was refused by Christchurch Borough Council's planning committee due to concerns about over development.
At the planning meeting in January, Cllr Peter Hall described the development as the worst he had seen since serving on the committee.

He said: "Are we really expected to approve an application that is tantamount to building slums in the 21st century?"
But the developers are hoping to have more success with their new scaled-down application for a two-storey terrace of five two-bedroom properties as well as a pair of two-storey two-bedroom dwellings alongside a detached two-bedroom house.
Planning associate David Williams from Tanner and Tilley, the agent acting on behalf of applicant Bryant and Trowbridge said: "The applicant has taken into account the concerns raised by the committee and residents last time and we hope this application will be regarded more favourably by the council." He said the redesigned proposal had taken into account the immediate character of the area to reduce the scale and mass of the development.
Mr Williams added: "Essentially the number of units have been reduced as has the overall size of the development. There is more room for parking manoeuvres, which was a particular concern last time and the design of the properties in a cottage-style is much more traditional - and sympathetic to the surrounding area."

Bryant and Trowbridge aren't known in the trade, for building quality houses. One only has to look at the block of flats at the far end of Rosemount Road, Westbourne, that B & T are cobbling together to see that.
There's another of their flatlet monstrosities at the junction of Litchford Road and Ashley Road, New Milton. Unfortunately, the Director is a very nasty piece of work himself.

The flats built today are mostly ugly, cheap and tacky, and a complete eyesore. They are thrown together as quickly as possible, all in the name of profit. I am sick and tired of these greedy, money grabbing developers, who care only about themselves. Would they live in these little boxes? I doubt it very much.
(Oh !!, another song springs to mind, " Nina & Fredericks " Little Boxes" from the 60's.
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky,

Come on Christchurch, Bournemouth, Poole Borough Councils, etc etc .... Say NO to these greedy selfish businessmen before it is too late. Please think of the local folk. They have a right to a minimum standard of living. A standar that is being very quickly eroded away by over development. NO TO MORE GROTESQUE, SQUALID LITTLE DWELLINGS THAT WILL IN JUST A FEW YEARS DETERIORATE TO THE POINT OF TURNING CHRISTCHURCH ANFD OTHER TOWNS INTO A SLUM AREA.
