Good Samaritans save Janet's day
RESCUED: Janet Bright safe back at home in Hamworthy
RESCUED: Janet Bright safe back at home in Hamworthy

IN today's fast-paced world it sometimes feels Good Samaritans are a phenomenon of yesteryear - but in the case of stranded pensioner Janet Bright, this couldn't be further from the truth.

The 67-year-old, whose car spluttered to a halt in the middle of a busy Poole dual carriageway, has praised the efforts of two men who came to her rescue.

Her "knights in shining armour" not only stopped to reassure her, they towed her stricken Peugeot back to her Hamworthy home and even arranged for a mechanic to pay a visit.

The men, Glyn Jones - owner of Lakeside Cars in Hamworthy - and his employee Peter Holloway refused any payment for their troubles.

Mrs Bright said: "I'd just gone round Tower Park roundabout when it just died on me. I was really panicking because I was stopped in the fast lane of the dual carriageway.

"Then these two young men stopped in a van and offered to help. They were my knights in shining armour.

"One of them even drove my car as the other towed it. You just don't hear many stories like this anymore, but I think they deserve a really big thank you.

"They wouldn't take a thing for their trouble. I even offered them a drink and they politely turned that down. I am so grateful."

Mrs Bright broke down on Dorset Way, around midday on Tuesday, following a Tower Park shopping trip.

After the Echo tracked down Mr Jones, he said: "She had pulled over in the fast lane and we stopped to ask if she needed any help getting it off the road.

"It was in quite a dangerous position and she was shaking like a leaf so we were glad to help.

"It was no trouble to tow her as we were on our way to work, so we dropped her at her house and had a look at the car. It looked like an electrical fault so I contacted a mechanic I know."

The mechanic arrived within hours and had Mrs Bright on the road later that day.
