ALTERED IMAGES: Sharp-suited businesswomen can't wait to transform themselves in Waynetta Slob-alikes, says a new poll
ALTERED IMAGES: Sharp-suited businesswomen can't wait to transform themselves in Waynetta Slob-alikes, says a new poll

BY day, she's a sharply-dressed executive cutting a dash in the office in her tailored pin-striped suit and killer heels.

But by night she turns into Waynetta Slob, swapping her smart work clothes for a pair of baggy tracksuit bottoms and an old T-shirt.

According to a new poll, three-quarters of women say they like to "slob-out" after a busy day in the office.

A third of women also remove their make-up straight after work while 24 per cent scrape their sleek hairstyle into a messy pony tail.

A spokeswoman for Debenhams said: "We are noticing the slob out' trend in store too - our leisure wear and pyjama sales have increased by 29 per cent in the past two years.

"Leggings, comfortable tracksuit bottoms and soft baggy pyjama bottoms are still flying off the shelves despite the spring weather and demand is at an all time high.

"After a busy day at the office or at home, there is nothing nicer than slipping on a cosy pair of lounging pants.

"Not only does comfort wear make you feel instantly relaxed, it also seems to signify the end of the working day."

Eleanor Storey, who runs a marketing agency in Poole, admits to being a bit of a Waynetta in out of office hours.

"Clothes put you in a particular mindset. Even though I work from home half of the week I still wear smart clothes to put me in the right frame of mind.

"But if I've been in meetings all day my jacket comes off almost as soon as I walk through the front door.

2CR presenters Paul Bunker and Caroline Verdon came up with the headline for this story in the Headline Game

"I either put on my favourite pair of comfy jeans and a T-shirt or if I really feel like vegging out I put on my yellow lounge pants from Primark! I would never wear them outside the house though."

But it's not just women who like to chill out after work. Eleanor says her boyfriend is just the same.

"As soon as he gets home he puts on his board shorts and T-shirt. He hates having to wear a suit and tie for work.

"He doesn't even bother putting on a tie in the mornings now - he just keeps one in his drawer at work."

Equally the way you look and present yourself at work can make an immense difference to how you are perceived in business.

Eleanor's work colleague, 27-year-old Emma James, recently had her "work wardrobe" revamped courtesy of Sandra Atrill of House of Colour.

"The clothes I wear every day make me feel more confident and creative," says Emma.

"I have seen a noticeable difference in first impressions I make on new contacts at networking and in meetings."

A spokesman for Debenhams added: "It's amazing how different clothes can make you feel, and in the same way a little black dress and killer heels can make women feel sexy, wearing baggy tracksuit bottoms or leggings can make them feel relaxed and happy."
