Fabulous prize if you come up with new name
 |
| MUST CHANGE: Aruba bar-restaurant on Pier Approach, Bournemouth |
ARUBA seemed the perfect name for a beachfront restaurant. It was exotic, it was catchy - but it was already taken.
Less than a year after it opened at Bournemouth's Pier Approach, Daily Echo readers are being asked to come up with an eye-catching new name for Aruba.
The problem emerged when operator Andy Price tried to register the name, with the thought of expanding the brand and opening further Arubas in the future.
But to his dismay, he was told that a group of bars and restaurants in the North East of England were already operating under the name and that he would have to think again.
He said: "I am gutted and I feel really stupid. I thought Aruba was a great name and it seemed to fit our restaurant and bar perfectly.
"But suddenly we find ourselves breaching someone else's trademark and we have just a couple of months to take the name and logo off everything.
"I messed up and now I'm hoping Echo readers can come up with something just as good as Aruba."
The person who comes up with the winning suggestion will get free meals for a year, up to a maximum value of £50 a week, at the stylish restaurant.
The prize also includes VIP status, a cocktail on arrival and priority booking and is valid for 12 months.
So what sort of suggestions are they looking for? "It could be one word or two but it's got to sound good," said Mr Price.
"I would like something associated with the beach because obviously we are right on the water with probably the best views in the area.
"It needs to conjure up the exoticness of the restaurant and the fact that we prepare all food to order with the freshest of ingredients. It also needs to look good as a logo."
Entries can be submitted either by filling out a form at the restaurant or by emailing promotions@bournemouthecho.co.uk with your name, address, telephone number and suggested name.
Alternatively, write your details on a postcard and send it to Aruba Competition, Daily Echo Promotions Department, Richmond Hill, Bournemouth, BH2 6HH. All normal Daily Echo rules apply. The closing date for entries is Monday, May 12.
