A ROYAL Bournemouth Hospital ward remained closed due to a norovirus outbreak yesterday.
The first cases of the contagious vomiting and diarrhoea bug were identified on Monday, which closed ward 24.
Visiting restrictions are in place and people are advised to call the ward before visiting.
Paula Shobbrook, Director of Nursing, said: “While we regret the inconvenience and upset that restrictions on visiting can cause friends and relatives, as there is norovirus in the community, it is essential to ensure the virus does not spread to other parts of our hospitals.
“The safety of our patients is paramount and the cooperation of members of the public in helping this is appreciated.
“We are following all national guidelines and staff have strict infection control processes in place aiming to prevent further spread of the sickness and diarrhoea virus.
“We review the situation regularly and we will re-open the ward as soon as it is safe to do so and when it has been thoroughly cleaned, as part of the ongoing deep cleaning programme.”
