THE letter from Stephanie Vincent (December 24) suggesting that there should be a voluntary contribution box in hospitals is a good idea but it does not go far enough.
I am a pensioner and have not paid NI for some years, but I can afford to make an additional voluntary contribution to the NHS.
I am sure that there are many others in the same position. The government could put in place a scheme to enable this perhaps using the State Pension Scheme.
People of my age have always regarded the NHS as a wonderful privilege and would like to contribute if they can. We were brought up to give when we could and so that we can benefit when needed.
