A new X-ray suite has been opened at a hospital in Wimborne.

The mayor of Wimborne, Cllr Andy Hampton, cut the ribbon at Victoria Hospital’s new radiology room on September 24 alongside his 12-year-old daughter Alisha and the unit’s staff.

The new installation includes state of the art technology with reduced radiation and better quality X-ray images.

Iain Luscombe, Dorset HealthCare’s radiology service manager, said the new and improved room would increase the quality of service to patients and help the radiographers who work there.

“Having the mayor here made it a special occasion and will hopefully improve awareness in the area of the facilities we have here,” he added.

“Victoria Hospital’s new digital X-ray unit will continue to provide an excellent local diagnostic imaging service to our patients in Wimborne.

“The X-ray unit utilises innovative new technology, allowing for an improved patient experience through faster examination times, less radiation and greater image quality.”

As well as the ribbon cutting, the occasion was marked by safety demonstrations and talks on the benefits the new technology will provide for patients, radiology staff and referring clinicians.

Cllr Hampton said: “It was a privilege to be able to visit Victoria Hospital, meet the trust’s radiology team, and officially open the new X-ray unit.

“This technology will offer the local community a vital health resource that I am certain will continue and enhance the excellent care already provided by Victoria Hospital staff.”
