Outpatient staff at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals are celebrating becoming the first Outpatients Department in the country to be awarded a Practice Development Unit (PDU) Accreditation.
The accreditation was awarded by the School of Health and Social Care at Bournemouth University.
The department has been working towards the award since January 2008. The accreditation panel was very impressed with the work they saw, awarding the accreditation without condition.
The judging process involved the submission of an extensive document outlining how the Outpatients Department is meeting the 12 PDU standards. Some of the areas the department was assessed on include the communication structure within the department, the partnership between outpatients and its service users, and the personal development plans for Outpatients staff.
Dr Ann Hemingway, Chair of the PDU Panel at Bournemouth University commented: “We were very impressed with the working practices we observed within Outpatients. The team work within the department was fantastic, everyone worked together really well and each individual was actively encouraged to bring their ideas and vision into the department.”
Sue Rendell, Senior Clinical Leader of Outpatients, commented: “The Outpatients staff and I are thrilled to receive the accreditation without condition from Bournemouth University. It really recognises the excellent standards that are present within the department.
“The accreditation was only possible with the support of our manager and all the hard work and commitment from the Outpatient staff.”
