MODEL and TV presenter Kelly Brook may have a glamorous life but stress can make her grind her teeth.
Kelly says: “As a rule I tend not to get down about stuff. Of course, everyone has their down days, but I’m a big believer in positive thinking. I’m a glass half-full girl rather than a glass half-empty type.
“But I do grind my teeth if I am stressed. I even have braces to stop me doing it.”
Teeth grinding, or its medical term bruxism, is on the rise and it’s most commonly caused by anxiety.
Dentists report a 20 per cent increase in cases over the last year, possibly linked to the recession.
The most effective treatment is a bite guard designed to prevent grinding, which long term can damage tooth enamel, disrupt sleep and cause facial pain and headaches.
Kelly’s modelling career began at 16 when she won a beauty competition. Since then she’s starred in numerous magazines and advertising campaigns.
She’s comfortable with her hourglass figure and has described herself as “confident” in her own skin.
“I’m a naturally curvy woman and I’m happy with that. I have no desire to be any other shape or size and I’d never buckle to the pressures of size zero. My ethos is, be confident in yourself and make the most of what you’ve got.
“And I’m very conscious that I’m a role model for younger women, being in the public eye."
Kelly, who was a presenter on Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast, has been a judge on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent and competed in BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing, has a varied fitness regime.
“I really enjoy dancing and I try to keep up everything I learnt on Strictly, which is easier said than done! But at least dancing doesn’t feel at all like exercise, which makes it more fun.
“Actually I prefer exercising outdoors, as I find running and cycling exhilarating and it really de-stresses me. And I rarely sit down as I usually have too much to do.”
Kelly, 30, is single since her relationship with rugby star Danny Cipriani, 22, ended.
She was previously engaged to the actor, Billy Zane, who starred in the film Titanic.
She loves relaxing at her home, a 15th century farmhouse in Kent, surrounded by countryside where she can walk her dog, Rocky.
“I’m not a morning person so my perfect day is waking up after a long lie-in.
“I like being there cuddling Rocky, reading a book or planning what I’m going to do,”says Kelly.
