Make a meal of supporting charity

RUNNING a marathon, doing a parachute jump from a plane or swimming the English Channel are a few of the more physically challenging ways to raise money for charity.

However, if that’s too demanding (or terrifying) you could simply cook to help a worthy cause. National charity Make-A-Wish Foundation UK is urging people to hold a Dinner4Good in March to enable the charity to grant wishes to children and young people who are fighting life-threatening illnesses.

Those wanting to host a dinner party can, via the charity’s website, set up a Dinner Page and invite friends by email.

Guests can visit the host’s Dinner Page, see who’s attending, what’s on the menu, and also donate online, which removes the awkwardness of asking friends for money. Amanda Baughen at Make-A-Wish, says: “Just £10 could buy lunch for a child who wishes for a special day out in London, and £20 could pay for a sparkly tiara to help fulfil a little girl’s wish to be a princess for the day.”

Another foodie event is Christian Aid’s fundraising Super Soup Lunch on March 26. Chef Kevin Woodford, who has appeared on BBC shows, including Ready Steady Cook and Can’t Cook, Won’t Cook, is backing the event and says: “Whether you regularly make your own soup, or are just a dab-hand with a tin opener, we want you to get involved. Enjoying a soup lunch with friends at work, home or school, can help Christian Aid raise money so people in developing countries can enjoy a better life.”

Money raised from Super Soup Lunches supports Christian Aid’s work in countries such as Haiti, devastated by Janu-ary’s earthquake. To hold a Dinner4Good visit: dinner4good.com/Make-A-Wish.
