THIS is a bird’s eye view of Europe’s first artificial Boscombesurfreef/" target="_blank">surf reef, just days before the £3 million tourist attraction’s official launch.
It has now been revealed that lifeguard cover will operate 365 days of the year, funded by Bournemouth council.
Two RNLI lifeguards will patrol Boscombe East throughout the winter, including Christmas Day.
Earlier this week tourism director Mark Smith said safety concerns expressed in emails between the council and developer ASR had been resolved.
He added that when favourable surfing conditions prevail staff will be trained on the reef prior to its opening the next day.

To the Echo .... it would be a good idea if you ran a story on where the money is coming from to pay the wages of the lifeguards who will be there 365 days a year. Would you do that? It would also be a good idea to find out why the Council are cutting back on services yet they have millions to plough into this waste of time reef but there again, we are paying for that.

If you are a surfer as you say you are, you will have no doubt been surfing in far better places than the Boscombe Sea Front already. Therefore you will know from your experience that sandbags will not make waves, and the position of them will not produce any greater waves regardless of the sea conditions. Or perhaps you are a marketing pundit for the Bournemouth Council.............
MOST OF YOU LOT WONT BE SLAGGING THE REEF OFF, WHEN WE GET A BIG DECENT WINTER SWELL BREAKING OVER IT...(AS A SURFER).... I WANT TO SEE ALL OF YOU LOT WHO THINK ITS STUPID AND A FAILURE TO GO OUT THERE AND SURF IT..........GO ON I DARE YOU...........(NO?..
.yeah thought so........if you dont actually surf and dont know what your on about.....how about try complaining against things like bingo halls or something which actually relates to you............

Secondly, I personally wouldn't be the first to complain when a tragic accident happens - that is down to the Council. Yes it would be tragic but it would be a case of told you so Bournemouth Council. Come to think of it, are there lifeguards on duty at Fistral Beach in Newquay 365 days a year?

WHY IS EVERYONE SO AGAINST THE REEF, hypocrites: your quick to critisize the lack of waves but when something gets done you still moan. As for it costing a lot of "YOUR MONEY", what you pay £3million tax? i dont think so. It probably only works out like a fiver per person. Most of you act like your gods gift when something you dont like happens, well why havent you done anything about the reef in REAL LIFE, as apposed to writing crappy comments on here. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but if you hate it so much why havent you acted OFFLINE: panzies! anyway i have photos of the reef producing good waves from last yr when half done........and i for one know it has potential, when we get a decent swell that will shut all you negatives up.............good bye!
