Boscombe surf reef sign slip leads to hasty cover up

More stories about: Boscombe Surf Reef

A SLIP-up meant tourist signs for Boscombe's Surf Reef were unveiled before final safety checks were carried out.

At least three yellow and black AA signs were unveiled over the weekend but covered up again yesterday.

The final tests are ongoing and council and contractors are meeting later this week to decide if it can officially be declared “open”.

The reef is in open sea - how would the council and contractors manage to declare it "closed"?!

Or, should it be found not fit for purpose, are we going to have to pay for it's removal too??

Even with the winds and tides, there is nothing showing at the reef. As predicted all along, nothing but a canvas sand filled over sized duvet cover.....No wonder Newquay did not want it, and others who have had, feel hard done by.......

One has a better chance of going over one of the falls on the River Stour. I suppose we could get the Balfleur to divert to the bay before going into Poole, to give a bit of a wave, (or would it be waive)........

Stop embarrassing yourselves Bournemouth Council, and Co (they know) and cover the signs up, or better still take them down.

How would one direct someone to Newquay? this is Walter Mitty land. So let the emperors new clothes exposure commence. Even the Daily Mail are laughing...but probably less than those who filled their pension plans pushing this through.

Looking at the 'Freemason' part of the Town Hall and you can easily see who miss-runs this town. The windows are there for all to see. What a disappointment and self serving lot they have been. Time for a new order. Move over darling.

Sure the burning question here is this... how do you safety check a reef? It seems the council know. So can echo ask them?

Perhaps it is simply a question of putting marker buoys around it?

.

Simple answer to your burning question..
.
Stick ALL the councilors on a surf board each, and bung them in the sea..
Those that return to shore can truly answer the question...."WAS IT WORTH IT?"
Those that don't .......

That's actually quite a good question, I'd be interested to see what the answer is and whether the council has any redress should it be declared "unsafe"... although I suspect the safety checks will be carried out by the same people who carried out the building work, so the chances of them declaring it "unsafe" (and therefore risking no-payment) are slim indeed!!!! or am I just being cynical??
