On Tuesday, The BIC played host to one of the UK’s biggest indie rock bands, Kasabian. The band took to the stage and certainly delivered an electrifying performance.

With the gig selling out in a matter of minutes of the day of the ticket release, it is no surprise that the venue was packed out with excited fans, awaiting the arrival of the lead act. The supporting act was The Maccabees who took to the stage to warm up the crowd with a 45-minute long performance. With a set list comprised of both new and old songs, it’s safe to say that they successfully prepared spectators for the main act.

Band members Tom Meighan, Sergio Pizzorno, Chris Edwards and their drummer Ian Matthews wasted no time kicking off the show with their first song, Bumblebee - the second single to be released of their latest album, 48:13. The opening song’s hard-hitting tune and the repetitive chants created the perfect atmosphere for the rest of the performance, with crowd members jumping around instantly.

The band maintained the highly energetic, explosive atmosphere throughout the entire gig, with the colourful strobe lighting displays playing their part until the end. Their 21-track setlist contained the perfect balance of both new and old material, as performances of old classics Shoot the Runner, Underdog and Club Foot took the crowd on a journey back through the band’s successful history.

After ending their main set with a spine-tingling version of arguably their most famous song, Fire, the band treated the audience to a four song encore. The band pulled out all of the stops, as they rocked the crowd and took us all back to the 1990s, with a cover of Fatboy Slim’s Praise You. They ended on a high with yet another classic, L.S.F, leaving all of the spectators (including myself) wanting more.

As expected, the band delivered yet another fantastic performance, leaving their legendary status well intact. In my opinion, they are still one of the best British rock bands of our generation, and I am sure that their incredible performance at the BIC has only reinforced this among everyone who attended.
