Yip – Mr Smiths, Bournemouth (24.1.00): Superior local musicians.

15 years ago:

Sons of Geronimo – Alcatraz, Bournemouth (19.1.95): The local funk rockers promised much but never quite delivered.

25 years ago:

Norma Lewis – The Academy, Boscombe (18.1.85): Give Me Back My Heart hitmaker on tour.

Hinge & Bracket – Poole Arts Centre (24.1.85).

30 years ago:

Robin Trower + Samson – Poole Arts Centre (24.1.80): Double bill of prime British heavy metal would have cost you £3.

40 years ago:

Gerry Brown’s Jazzmen – Royal Exeter Hotel, Bournemouth (19.1.70).

Edgar Broughton Band – The Ritz, Bournemouth (23.1.70): Anti-Establishment prog rockers tear up the seaside.

Canned Heat + Renaissance – Winter Gardens, Bournemouth (24.1.70): Boogie rockers touring in support of the Future Blues album and the hit single Let’s Work Together. Material from the tour was later released as the album Live in Europe.

The Ray King Soul Band – The Ritz, Bournemouth (24.1.70).

Elias Hulk – YMCA, Bournemouth (24.1.70): Cult prog rockers from Bournemouth whose one album is a record collector’s Holy Grail.

45 years ago:

The Outlaws – Pavilion Ballroom, Bournemouth (19.1.65): Instrumental band who recorded for Joe Meek and featured Chas Hodges (of future Chas & Dave fame) and Ritchie Blackmore.

John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers – Bure Country Club (20.1.65): Mayall clearly liked it in Hampshire, he was around Bournemouth every week around this time.

The Crawdaddies – Le Disque a Go Go, Bournemouth (20.1.65).

The Jerks – 45 Club, Bournemouth (20.1.65).
