Jane McDonald – BIC (13.1.05).

Los Pacaminos – Mr Kyps, Poole (14.1.05): Paul Young’s Tex-Mex band always rattle the rafters at Kyps.

The Dogs – O’Neills, Bournemouth (14.1.05).

10 years ago:

Gordon Haskell – Thomas Tripp, Christchurch (13.1.00): How Wonderful You Are was on its way into Gordon’s set arouond this time.

The Spooks + Autumn – Gander, Bournemouth (16.1.00): The Spooks were a great little punky garage band that should have gone a lot further.

15 years ago:

We Killed Bambi – Mr Smiths, Bournemouth (11.1.95): Highly amusing punk covers outfit.

20 years ago::

Simply Red – BIC (14.1.90): Part of their 18-month-long tour in support of the album, A New Flame.

35 years ago:

Hawkwind – Winter Gardens, Bournemouth (11.1.75): Still clawing the stratopshere for members and inspiration. Lemmy was in the line-up as they set out to promote their Hall of the Mountain Grill album.

40 years ago:

Monty Sunshine Jazz Band – Royal Exeter Hotel, Bournemouth (12.1.70).

Spirit of John Morgan – The Ritz, Bournemouth (16.1.70): Blues-leaning heavy psyche outfit whose debut album came out a year later.

45 years ago:

The Marauders – Pavilion Ballroom, Bournemouth (12.1.65): Stoke on Trent garage band who had previously achieved chart success as The Ivy League.

Tony Knight’s Chessmen – Le Disque a Go Go, Bournemouth (16.1.65): Ultra-hip mod scene Hammond organ jazzers. Their track, Surfer Street remains a cult favourite today.
