Peter Sykes of Swanage said Dave Croft's postcard of the lift on the East Cliff, Bournemouth printed on June 20 must date from the late 1940s or 1950s for various reasons.
From 1948 there was a permanent concrete and steel East Beach Jetty known as 'Bolson's Jetty, replacing the wheeled mobile landing stage. As can also be seen in the picture are the wooden bodied cliff lift vehicles which were still being used until the 1960s.
However, the people pictured extreme right have clothing earlier than 1960s.
