Mrs Marion Yetman ( nee Ferrucci ) of Parkstone was one of many children who attended an end of the war street party. The party she went to was in Nansen Avenue in Oakdale, Poole, and included children from nearby roads.
In the photograph Marion is the girl with long hair in the third row up, third from the right, facing the camera. She has also identified two girls in the front row on the far left as Margaret Cave and Audrey Herbert.
King George VI sent a signed 'personal message' in poster form to Marion and other school children
acknowledging the hardships and dangers they have endured during the war. He knew they would always be proud of their country and 'proud too of parents and elder brothers and sisters who by their courage, endurance and enterprise brought victory'.
He hoped these qualities would be with them as they grew up and that they would 'join in the common effort to establish among the nations of the world unity and peace'.
Important war dates are listed on the reverse of the poster, along with a section at the bottom for 'My Family's War Record'.
Contact Echoes if you recognise any of the children in the picture.
