Richard A D Howard, Maureen Vanner and Bournemouth historian John Walker, said the postcard of Bournemouth Pier from the West Cliff with a sign 'Sing it with Joe' printed on May 22 refers to Glasgow-born Joe 'Mr Piano' Henderson.
John said he was a prolific pianist in Variety and on records in the 1950s and 60s who played piano and sang Singalong songs to a tinkly 'honky tonk' piano.
His most popular records were 'Sing It With Joe' and 'Sing It Again With Joe'. He became pianist to the young up-and-coming singer Petula Clark, with whom he became both business and romantically linked. They never married, one theory being that Joe didn't want to become known as 'Mr Petula Clark'.
