Paul Pearson of West Moors contacted the Echo after seeing Alan Mullins picture of Winton and Moordown School boys class taken outside the school in Coronation Avenue circa late 1940s or early 50s printed on April 29.

Paul is stood next to Alan on the far left of the middle row. The two boys were good friends at school. He also recognised Robert Prothero in the same row, fourth from the left.

Robert's older brother Will was a magician. He was the youngest member of the Magic Circle whilst still at school. In 1951 he won two cups at the Wessex Magical Association, beating all the adult magicians with his clever card manipulation. A few months later when he was only 15 he started a professional career as a magician at the Theatre Royal in Castleford after the family moved to London.

Paul remembers Michael Giles in the front row was keen to join his father as a farmer on Muscliffe Farm.

After Paul left school he was a trainee chef at the Carlton and Royal Bath hotels and then became a trainee butcher at Tongs butchers in Moordown. He has also had stints in the building trade as well as the leisure industry in cafes and restaurants and had the Old Mill Tea Rooms on Christchurch Quay for a while. He has been married to a Poole girl for 52 years.

The class line-up is as follows, back row, left to right, Phillips, Habgood, Lambert, Preston, McArthur and Pike. Middle row: Paul Pearson, Alan Mullins, three unknowns, Fudge, Robert Prothero, Ray Merryfield, Billy Taylor and an unknown. Front row: Maidment, Michael Giles, an unknown, Shearing, Brian Hoskins, two unknowns, Kitchener, Miles and Coul.
