AN AUTHOR is appealing for people’s memories of the Rolling Stones’ Bournemouth concerts half a century ago.

Richard Houghton, pictured inset, of Preston, is writing a ‘people’s history’ of the rock legends and wants to collect local memories.

The Stones played Bournemouth’s Gaumont in 1963 and the Winter Gardens in 1964.

Mr Houghton is especially interested in the 1964 tour.

“They played over 300 shows during the year, had two number ones and were well on the way to establishing themselves as the biggest band in the UK after the Beatles,” he said.

“I'm compiling a people's history of the Rolling Stones and would love to hear from anyone who attended one of those concerts and would like to share their memories.

I would like to hear what they remember of the gig but also who they went with, how old they were and what their parents thought!”
