A PET healthcare company has come up with a list of New Year resolutions owners can help their animals with.

The suggestions made by MedicAnimal include microchipping your dog, a legal requirement for owners since April 2016, starting an emergency pet fund if insurance is not affordable, or your pet is too elderly to be insured, and keeping your pet’s brain active with new toys and activities.

The company also recommends spaying or neutering your pet if you have not done so already, cleaning your pet’s teeth regularly, and taking your pet regularly to the vet to be weighed.

“If you’re trying to give up bad habits then firstly you should consider giving up smoking. Second-hand smoke can affect your pet just as much as humans but there’s no way for them to tell you,” a spokesperson for the company added.

“Make sure you have a good walk daily with your dog – what a perfect partner to help you lose weight as well, if needed.”

Other resolution ideas from MedicAnimal include giving pets a balanced premium pet food as obese pets are becoming a problem as a result of overfeeding, and remembering to spend more time with your pet through a cuddle, groom, or play time.
