FORMER bank manager and Rotarian, David Cundy of Christchurch, has died at the age of 85.

David carried out his National Service with the RAF after growing up in Plymouth.

He went on to work for the local branch of Midland Bank and other branches in the area, before moving to the Exeter branch.

From there he moved to the Salisbury area office and then Walton on Thames where he met his wife, Valerie, who he married in 1969 aged 35.

He then transferred to Guernsey where he worked as the branch's accountant, before the couple moved to Highcliffe, where David was appointed as the manager.

Alongside his friend, Tony Parkinson, he became a founder-member of the local branch of the Rotary Club, which they launched together in December 1977.

At the end of November 1980, David moved to take over the management of the New Milton branch.

Keen to forge further links with the community, he was at one point president of the Chamber of Trade, the honorary treasurer of St Mark's parish church and was a member of the deanery synod.

David took on the role of the speaker secretary for the Rotary club, which he did throughout his life with Rotary International, with exception to his time as the club's president in 1990/91.

When he was not giving his time to others, David enjoyed spending time going travelling with his wife, Valerie, as well as enjoying hobbies including music, photography, birdwatching and being part of an amateur dramatics club.

David Cundy died on Saturday, October 29 at the age of 85.

His funeral took place at St Mark's Church in Highcliffe on Wednesday, November 16, with donations going to the Friends of St Mark's Church.
