ENGLAND cricket legend, David Gower, has given new routes for the Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride 2010 the ultimate seal of approval – by pledging to take part again on Sunday July 4.
The former England cricket captain has taken this year’s theme – “try something different” – to heart, signing up for a new distance from the 10, 20, 38, 48, 60 and 100 mile routes on offer.
“It was great to be there for what has become a superbly run and brilliantly supported annual event, one that is easy and fun to be part of,” he said.
“The cause remains a great one so I am looking forward to be there again this July and I hope record numbers will join me,” he said.
Organisers of this year’s 21st anniversary ride – supported again by luxury boat-builder Sunseeker, bike shop Primera, and the Daily Echo – are hoping to smash their £100,000 fundraising target.
The Daily Echo’s editor-in-chief, Neal Butterworth, will be among the 1,000 fundraisers expected at the Corfe Mullen start line.
