Engineers from Poole’s luxury boat builder, Sunseeker, will be swapping high seas for dry land in a bid to boost the coffers of the Echo-backed Dorset Macmillan Bike Ride 2010.
Engineer, Owen Brownlan, 29, said that while he enjoyed regular rides through the Purbeck hills on his mountain and road bikes, some of his non-cycling colleagues could be in for a shock on Sunday July 4 when they set off on the 38-mile route.
“We all work on the same production line and we wanted to keep that team ethic. We’ll all ride together on the day.
“It’s for a really good cause. When you see the smiles on the faces of the people on the web site you realise that the work of the Macmillan nurses changes lives,” said Owen.
Ride organiser, Peter Smith-Nicholls, said Sunseeker had sponsored the race since 2006, adding that the fundraising total had risen during each year of their involvement.
The Daily Echo’s Editor-in-Chief, Neal Butterworth, will be among the 1,000 people expected at the ride’s new departure point at Corfe Mullen on Sunday July 4.
