MORE than 1,200 visitors attended the installation service at Southwell Minster for the Rt Rev Paul Butler – former Bishop of Southampton – as Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham.
In Southampton, Bishop Paul was responsible for the Southern area of the Diocese of Winchester, including Bournemouth, the New Forest and neighbouring villages.
The Rt Rev Michael Scott-Joynt, Bishop of Winchester, who attended the service, said that Bishop Paul had “had an enormously effective and encouraging public ministry” in the diocese of Winchester.
The Rev Canon Rob Peters, vicar of Throop and priest-in-charge of Holy Epiphany in Bournemouth until last month, was also at the service.
He said: “The sight of the young people from across the diocese standing in the central aisle waving their flags summed up perfectly the reality of an all-age family worshipping together and being challenged to serve together.”
