THIRTY students recently took part in a unique inter-faith project at the Lighthouse in Poole. Peacethread – Will the Real Peacemakers Please Stand Up? – included delegates from Lytchett Minster School, Highcliffe School and Poole & Bournemouth College. They entered into dialogue with representatives from Bournemouth Mosque, Bournemouth Reform Synagogue, Poole Quakers and Ecumenical Accompaniers.
The innovative conference focused on peace and reconciliation in Israel/Palestine. Students led the proceedings having attended workshops by local faith communities and threaded together strategies for peace under the brief Operation Peacethread.
Peacethread coordinator Helen O’Connor said: “The students were amazing, creative, reflective and imaginative.
“We hope they will take the themes of the conference back to their schools and colleges to continue threading together ways in which peace can be encouraged not just in the local community but in the global community also.”
The Peacethread team hope to run the project with other schools and colleges.
