WILL you get a Valentine card tomorrow? Many of us won’t!
St Valentine, according to tradition, was martyred for his Christian faith on February, 14, 269 AD, leaving a note for his jailer’s daughter: “From your Valentine.”
Today he’s the patron saint of lovers, although Valentine cards only appeared in the 19th century. Whatever the legends about St Valentine, here is a fact about his Lord.
Jesus Christ is God’s enduring “Valentine” to the human race: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (John’s Gospel 3:16).
Now that’s a Valentine all may receive.
