THERE is good news this month for Methodists in Poole who have missed the sound of organ music. The sounds of the pipe organ at the Methodist Church in Poole High Street were last heard when organist Roy Brook played at the service on Good Friday in 2008.

Now Roy, pictured, is to return to the church for a concert of organ music on January 30.

Roy, who is now retired, says he was taught to play the piano by his grandfather.

“My first public appearance was as a pianist at the age of 12,” he told me. “That was with a children’s orchestra raising money for Second World War charities in Yorkshire and I went on to play in bands and orchestras. “I was soon playing professionally and when I moved to Poole in 1990, enjoyed working in Bournemouth at the Pavilion Ballroom and many local hotels.”

Music at Roy’s concert will include light orchestral, big band, Latin American and church organ styles. Admission to the concert costs £5 (payable on the door) and this will include light refreshments.

Proceeds will go towards church redevelopment funds, especially the preservation of the classic pipe organ at the church.
