SCHOOLS and employers from across the county have been commended for their work in helping to improve the 'employability' skills of young people.
Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) awarded new Charter status to a number of schools and companies which showed evidence of working together on a range of topics such as providing young people with the opportunity to discuss their future career aspirations with employers, highlighting the different opportunities that come from being employed and providing information about current and future labour market trends.
The initiative is part of the Dorset Employability Charter scheme, run by the Dorset Young People Forum on behalf of Dorset LEP and saw an award ceremony take place at Bournemouth University to officially recognise those who have achieved Charter status.
Chair of Dorset LEP Gordon Page said: “The Dorset Employability Charter forms part of the LEP’s commitment to raising the aspirations, employability and entrepreneurial capability of Dorset’s young people.
"The scheme is helping to better connect education providers and employers to prepare our young people for work thus helping to improve well-being and economic prosperity in Dorset.”
Caroline Foster, chair of Dorset Young People’s Forum added: “We believe that every young person has an entitlement to excellent careers, advice, work experience, knowledge of all the opportunities available as well as the skills needed to gain employment and contribute to the economy be it in Dorset or beyond.
"These awards shine a light on the excellent work and outstanding practice being carried out by education providers and employers across the county.”
