GCSE results at a Bournemouth independent school have rocketed since a new headmaster took the reins 18 months ago.

Russell Slatford has seen the number of students gaining at least five GCSEs at grades A*-C at Bournemouth Collegiate School increase by 13 per cent in a year and he says the record-breaking results are thanks to a renewed focus on the academic side of school life.

“The academic focus of the school had been lost and it was time to introduce a more traditional education” he said.

“The school has always had a good reputation for sport and the arts but I think it is important to have academic focus as well.”

The school is on two sites with prep pupils in St Osmund’s Road, Parkstone and senior students in College Road, Southbourne.

Mr Slatford said the school has been re-branded with a new website and a new fleet of minibuses. A new uniform is due to be introduced soon.

Students are encouraged to focus on the four Cs - Curiosity, Commitment, Creativity and Community - to give them a well-rounded education and the ability to think of others.
