POLICE were called to Poole High School on Wednesday afternoon after reports that a student was seen with a weapon.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said that they received a call from the school in Wimborne Road at 2.20pm with “reports of a student having a potential weapon on them”.

The spokesman added: “No threats were made by the student. Police attended the school and are currently making enquiries.”

The school has not yet commented.

When the Echo went to the school yesterday, our reporter was told that the headteacher, Fan Heafield, was in a meeting with governors.

Last month, she announced that she was retiring as headteacher in the summer after three years in the role and 27 years working at the school.

The incident follows news in February that a 15-year-old boy had been arrested on suspicion of dealing cocaine.

Poole High School’s last Ofsted inspection in December 2011, when she was acting head teacher, saw the school ranked as “good with outstanding features”.
