TWO teenagers won a clutch of gold, silver and bronze medals after powering their way onto the international powerlifting scene.

Lucy Rayner, 17, and Charlie Chester, 19, both A-level students at Bournemouth's LeAF Studio, made a successful debut in the European Powerlifting Championships, finishing third overall.

They also picked up a gold, two silvers and another bronze in bench press, squat and dead lift during the week-long championships, held in the Czech Republic.

Lucy said: “The experience was quite scary as it was our first international and we were competing against some of the best athletes in Europe. It was great to do so well and represent our country.”

For Charlie, it was also her first time competing in the Under 23s, so she was one of the youngest competitors in her categories.

She said: “It was daunting competing against some much older and bigger competitors, so I was really pleased with my results.

“There was one Russian girl the same age as me who was really good so I shall look forward to coming up against her for the next four years.”

Both girls currently receive sport, conditioning and nutrition coaching at LeAF, alongside their day-to-day academic studies.

The next goal for the pair, who are both British Champions, will now be the World Championships, which take place in Finland this June.
