A BOURNEMOUTH School has received a vote of confidence following a visit from government inspectors.

Harewood College was rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, a step up from its previous inspection, which concluded that it required improvement.

The boys’ school was rated Good across the board with a few suggestions to make it even better.

The education watchdog said there had been a “sea change” in the culture of the school.

Lead inspector Paul Sadler said in his report: “College leaders and governors share a highly positive vision for the future of the Trust.

“Since the previous inspection in 2013, there has been a sea change in the culture of the school. Students are keen to learn and are enabled to do so through teaching that is consistently good.”

The report also said students achieve well, behaviour is good and they are prepared well for life.

Inspectors said the school needs to improve the way it com-municates with parents, that the most able students are capable of greater success and that the school needs to ensure that all teachers use effective marking and feedback.

In 2012 Harewood College became part of Avonbourne Trust, which also includes Avonbourne College for girls and Avonbourne Sixth Form (mixed), in addition to Avonwood Prim-ary.

Executive headteacher of the Trust Debbie Godfrey-Phaure said: “This Ofsted report is testament to the hard work and determination of all the staff and students. All the measures and changes we have made since Harewood became part of our trust have fully bedded in and this is clearly reflected in our latest, good Ofsted [report].

“We are fantastically proud of our students and the next goal will be to achieve an ‘outstanding’ rating.”
