YOU probably wouldn’t think it if you’ve ever walked along Studland nudist beach, but research suggests that nearly half of men are worried about getting their kits off when they’re on holiday.
According to tescodiets.com, which carried out the research, one in three men has actually considered avoiding a beach holiday because of how they look in their swimming trunks.
Seven in 10 men were worried about exposing their bodies – 47 per cent of them were most concerned about revealing their bellies.
Although the question “Does my bum look big in this?” might be more associated with women than men, three-quarters of the blokes questioned thought that British men get just as nervous as women when it comes to slipping on the swimwear.
The research also revealed that men deploy a number of tactics to cover up when they are on the beach.
Nearly a quarter (24 per cent) wore shorts and a T-shirt even when they were in the sea, 40 per cent tried dieting and 36 per cent would strip off only when they were in the water.
The survey also highlighted jealousy among men – 76 per cent of those questioned had been envious of toned, athletic men that they spotted on the beach.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the female of the species had something to do with men having a complex about their bodies.
A third said they were most worried about how they look to the opposite sex, compared with just 13 per cent who worried about what other men would think about them.
“Every summer we hear plenty about women dreading having to wear a swimsuit, but men clearly have many of the same issues,” says Catherine Ambrozewicz, head of tescodiets.com, which questioned more than 2,000 men for the survey.
