Stargazers had their eyes to the skies for the only visible supermoon of 2017 last night.
December's full moon is known as the Full Cold Moon.
It appeared 14 per cent larger and 30 per cent brighter than usual.
The phenomenon happens when a full moon or new moon coincides with the moon's closest approach to the Earth.
The point on the orbit closest to Earth is called the perigee and the farthest is the apogee. On average the distance it is about 238,000 miles.
The last supermoon was in November 2016. However, in 2018 we'll be treated to not one but two supermoons.
The first will take place on January 1 with the next taking place just a few weeks later on January 31.
